New report on alcohol use in Ireland as watery, lukewarm and disappointing. Sep 24, 2015

The executive director of a Kerry addiction treatment centre has described a new report on alcohol use in Ireland as watery, lukewarm and disappointing.

Con Cremin of Talbot Grove in Castleisland says the 100-page report which was published yesterday avoids many of the major issues that need to be addressed.

The report called for the establishment of a national anti-drinking body with statutory powers but stopped short of seeking an end to the sponsorship of sporting events by drinks companies.

Con Cremin says the part-funding of the Stop Out-of-Control Drinking report by drinks giant, Diageo was not appropriate.

He believes the linking of alcohol to sporting occasions hasn’t been addressed:
